ITF Scotland Competition Rules. Correct as of June 2007.

1. Individuals.

Only individuals (kup and dan grades) who posses the required insurance and embership of ITF/S will be allowed to participate in official competitions/championships. Individuals are required to produce their licence/grading booklets on the day of the event. Grades must be ratified and membership current/valid.

2. Entry Forms

The official entry form must be complete, all details must be given and be accurate. Complete forms must be return to the Tournament Administrator by the given date. Forms arriving after this date will be returned to sender. The entry fee for all tournaments shall be set by the ITF -SCOTLAND. Instructors must coach competitors to the required standard of each event and assume responsibility for the choice of event for each individual.

3. Divisions / Categories

ALL DIVISIONS/CATEGORIES ARE DEPENDENT ON ENTRY AND MAY BE CHANGED

5. INJURIES AND INSURANCE

All tournaments to have all the relevant certificates i.e. public liability, fire certificate and have medical person or persons in attendance.

6. COURTESY

Competitors must at all times bow to the jury, referees, officials. All competitors should bow entering or leaving the area of their particular discipline and show courtesy to all times to the officials. Competitors should bow to each other at the beginning and the end of each
sparring bout. No competitors must approach the Umpire Committee or the top table unless
requested to do so. On the occasion that competitors are required to speak with officials they do so using "Sir or Miss"

7. OVERALL INDIVIDUAL

The competitor with the most points will win the overall medal. ( pattern medal over sparring medal)

Gold 3 points, Silver 2 points, Bronze 1 point with 4 or more in any division. With 3 competitors in a division only gold and silver shall be counted. With only two competitors only the Gold will count. Where there is only 1 competitor the Gold will be presented but no points shall be awarded . Overall medals count as 3 points and will be added to the overall school.

N.B. the sum of 3 warnings automatically means deducting 1 point. If an athlete is pushed out of the ring with intent (without undergoing a technique) then he will not receive a warning.

9) SPARRING AREA

The sparring area should be 9m x 9m edged with a distinguishable strip with the starting marks 2 meters apart where possible. The table where the Jury, recorder and timekeeper are seated is beside the square.

10) PROCEDURE

The opponents are identified by Red or Blue belts/tags. One the referee’s command opponents bow to flag/official table, the referee and then each other. The bout is controlled by the referee, who starts and stops the bouts. At the end of each bout the reverse, bowing procedure will follow after which the referee will ask for a decision of the four corner judges. The time will only stop during a bout if the referee so indicates. If whilst sparring an opponent losses balance or leaves the sparring area the bout will restart at the point of imbalance or exit.

11) SAFETY EQUIPMENT


All protective equipment or bandages must be approved by ITF-Scotland . Sparring equipment being of an approved type consisting of elastic material with sponge or rubber type padding and containing no metal, bone, hard plastic or similar hard material whatsoever, nor involving the use of zip lace or stud fasteners.
15. MISMATCHES

The referee can exercise his discretion in a mismatch regarding safety and bring the bout to a close before the statutory time elapses.

16. MEDICAL ATTENTION

All tournaments must have a Doctor(s) and qualified first Aid personnel in attendance. Doctor’s recommendations, with regard to competitor’s further participation, following injury, must be adhered to.

SPECIAL TECHNIQUE

17. SPECIAL TECHNIQUE HOLDER

This should have a hinged, swivel target attached to a measuring poll; the target should go from 1 meter to 3 meters. Divisions may be split female and male depending on number of entries. 1 x Gold 1 x Silver 2 Bronze in each category.

18. PROCEDURE

Competitors must begin from ready stance and end in the same position on completion of the technique. At no time must any part of the body apart from the feet touch the floor. Each competitor may have one pre judging of distance allowed without touching the target, where a competitor touches the target on the pre judge this will count as an attempt with no further run allowed. When given the command from the referee the competitor has 60 seconds to complete the item in one continuous movement.

19. SCORING

2 POINTS When the target has to be returned to the beginning position manually after moving more than 90 degrees from the starting position with the correct tool.

1 POINT When the target is touched by the correct tool. The winner will be the competitor who reaches the highest and scores.

20. DRAW

In the event of a draw the height will be increased until a winner is found.

21. DISALLOW
Referees may disallow a point for failure to maintain the following:
i) Correct balance and posture throughout technique.
ii) Correct attacking tool in correct manner.


22. JUNIORS - 13 yrs

26. DRAW

In the event of a tie the judge will select one item to be the "tie-breaker" . He will
decide how high the jump will be. The tied competitors will then carry on until the
places are decided.

The winner will be the competitors with the highest scores after having attempted all items in their group.


25 POWER TEST

(No power test for under 13 years Youth or Senior White and Yellow Belts)
Each category will be issued with 1 x Gold 1 x Silver 1 x Bronze medal/trophy It is compulsory for senior competitor to attempt each item listed, for his/her group.

The pyramid system of elimination will be used. Competitors will compete 1 to 1 and will perform simultaneously 1 choice pattern first (within their belt colour or degree). The Judges will choose the better one to go forward to the next round.

All divisions are mixed male & female.
